As part of our MicronGreen initiative we’re proud to announce a 100,000 kWh energy saving as part of a dedicated efficiency drive, to reduce consumption and optimise operations. This significant energy saving forms part of our energy commitment and reflects upon our operational, financial and environmental sustainability goals.

During 2024, energy monitoring equipment was installed within our Louth facility, which is responsible for processing more than 120,000 items a week. The Louth facility is one of the most technically advanced ISO Class 6 (GMP Grade C) Cleanroom Laundries in Europe. As an integral facility to our operations, it’s key we’re optimising energy use and ensuring the site runs as sustainably as possible.

Our Louth plant is highly automated and was purpose-built to exploit the power within our Protrack garment tracking system. Despite the modern technology, it is – like all industrial laundries – an energy intensive site. Utilising energy monitoring equipment has allowed us to identify energy hotpots and enabled us to implement optimisations within machinery.

The approach of utilising energy monitoring equipment at our Louth site forms an integral part of our MicronGreen strategy to rectify issues and prevent crucial energy wastage. With the data available to us we’ve managed to reduce energy consumption and usage by 100,000 kWh during the reporting period for Louth. This is equivalent to:

  • Powering 28 average UK homes for an entire year
  • The same as driving a petrol car from London to Tokyo and back 10 times
  • Planting 1000 trees
  • Skipping 23 transatlantic flights

The implementation of monitoring, and the subsequent saving of 100,000 kWh of energy, has formed a crucial first step in the roll out of energy monitoring. With great results produced at our Louth site we will be looking to roll this system out at other sites within the Micronclean group.
