Responsible Supply Chains: Micronclean’s Supplier Code of Conduct

Responsibility for business operations is not confined within Micronclean, but extends to where we choose to buy from. As a signatory of the Better Business Act, Micronclean is committed to balancing people, planet and profit, taking ownership of our environmental and social impact in a fair and sustainable way. This commitment aligns with our core values, SKIE's principles, and, fundamentally, represents the right thing to do.
A key part of this commitment is our Supplier Code of Conduct, which sets out the standards we expect from all suppliers and partners we work with. Our suppliers play a vital role in helping us operate ethically, sustainably and transparently.
A Foundation of Legal Compliance
At the heart of the Code of Conduct, and of good business practice more broadly, is the requirement for suppliers to comply with the laws, regulations and standards of the countries in which they operate, as well as to respect the intent of all relevant UK legislation referenced within our Code of Conduct. This ensures consistency, accountability and shared values across the entire supply chain.
Respecting Human Rights
Guided by the Human Rights Act and International Labour Organisation standards, we require our suppliers to uphold internationally recognised human rights in all business activities. This includes a zero-tolerance approach to child labour, with clear expectations around legal working ages and recognised apprenticeship schemes, alongside immediate corrective and preventative actions should any cases be identified.
We also take a firm stance against modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking. Suppliers must have robust procedures in place to prevent, identify and address these risks. Failure to do so may result in the immediate termination of the business relationship should violations be identified.
Fair, Safe and Inclusive Workplaces
Creating positive working environments is essential to long-term sustainability and employee wellbeing. Suppliers are expected to provide fair working conditions, including fair pay in line with local legislation, reasonable working hours, appropriate rest periods and access to clean facilities.
Health, safety and wellbeing are also key priorities. Suppliers must provide appropriate training, supervision and personal protective equipment (PPE), supported by clear procedures for reporting, investigating and recording incidents. Fire safety and emergency preparedness across all sites are core requirements.
Micronclean also has zero tolerance for discrimination, bullying or harassment. As such, we expect suppliers to foster fair and inclusive workplaces that promote equity, diversity and inclusion, alongside freedom of association and lawful worker representation.
Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability
As part of our wider Microngreen sustainability programme, built around the three core pillars of climate, circular economy, and people and communities, we expect our suppliers to share this commitment. This includes complying with environmental legislation, holding appropriate licences and permits, and actively working to minimise environmental impact.
Pollution prevention is another key concern, particularly in relation to the safe and responsible use of chemicals. These must be handled, stored, transported and disposed of in line with local legislation and by appropriately trained operatives.
Upholding Ethical Business Practices
Strong governance underpins everything we do, not only from a legal perspective but also from one of fairness and integrity. Suppliers must comply with anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws, avoid conflicts of interest and report any identified risks immediately.
Data protection and privacy are also critical in an increasingly connected world. Suppliers must comply with applicable data protection legislation and promptly report any data breaches, including the actions taken to prevent recurrence.
Transparency, Accountability and Speaking Up
Signing up to the Supplier Code of Conduct is one thing, but it must be supported by monitoring through ongoing engagement and audits. Failure to meet these expectations may result in a review of the business relationship.
We actively encourage transparency and accountability and maintain a dedicated, independent whistleblowing hotline for the anonymous reporting of breaches without fear of retaliation. All reports are handled confidentially and in line with legislative requirements.
Through working together, we believe responsible supply chains can create a positive impact for people, the planet and, ultimately, long-term business success.
